Shut Up and Listen
Shut up and listen explores creativity, introversion, displacement, class, love, womanhood and motherhood – everything that we want to be, everything that’s expected and everything that we are as humans, females and mothers. It has been developed through a physical R&D, poetry writing, soundscapes and a series of short films titled Give Me A Minute. Ultimately it will culminate in a live multi-media solo show that won’t leave anything unsaid. This one is for the quiet girls.
It’s punk, it’s angry, it’s physical and at times it will be loud.
Earth-bound were awarded a grant from the Surf The Wave Response Fund to reimagine the work during times of the Covid 19 pandemic. A series of short digital dance films ‘Give Me A Minute’ were created in collaboration with film maker Wayne Sables and composer Hannah Peel as an initial presentation of the ‘Shut Up And Listen’ project. The films were released over 10 days at the end of September. Watch this space….
WRAP AROUND ACTIVITY
As part of the project Sioda will be delivering workshops to help young individuals find their voice through creative practices.
These workshops are aimed at young women to help them find freedom of expression and to remember that every voice is valid. To know that having a quieter nature doesn’t mean that you don’t have as much to say as those who are more vocal and that there are many ways to express what you’re trying to say
