“EARTH-BOUND – POETRY IN MOTION”

Simon Edwards
Theatre Director, The Actors Space

I thought it might be time to introduce myself and Earth-bound properly, particularly for followers who don’t know me. Also a chance to share this shiny new headshot by @anafrantzphotography_

‘Hi! I’m Sioda, a freelance creative working with multiple, performance based art forms - physical theatre, clowning, poetry, music and film. Earth-bound is the space where all of my creative visions come to life. For me Earth-bound is about being rooted to the core of who we are, both as people and nature. I welcome you to a space where we meet for joyful connections, through rich, poetic & emotive storytelling, that holds a mirror to social and environmental happenings: authentic stories told with heart, humour and compassion. Through creative expression we gain solace, hope and embodiment and through my work I aim to drive passion, ambition and empowerment.

I care about equality and inclusion and representing female identifying voices, championing mothers working in the arts’

- I work both solo and with a collective of amazing multi-skilled artists based across the UK. I’m originally from Barnsley S.Yorks, living in The Midlands but my work is nomadic

- I am an associate artist with @the_actorsspace BCN and we often collaborate to provide CPD opportunities for performers & makers

- For the last 3 years I have been a mentor on DCD mentoring programme to help 3rd yr students at the Royal Ballet School prepare for professional careers in and out of dance

- I am open to collaborations, available for movement directing, film projects, creative workshops and careers advice/mentoring.

🌍 Our latest theatre production ‘For The Love Of Stuff’ is available to book. We also offer walkabout acts, stilt walking and festival workshops. Plus we have an indoor version suitable for schools and rural touring.

🎥 I have a series of poetry films which are available for exhibitions and immersive experiences.

⭐️Get in touch if you’re interested in a collaboration, workshop or show. sioda@earth-bound.co.uk

We were back to Radford Rebels this evening for the start of our Winter term. It was great to get back to our creative, rebel selves! ☺️

If you have a child age 6+ who would love to join us, we have a couple of spaces so get in touch!

We move, we draw, we sing, we tell stories….. all things creative, driven by the stories the children like to tell and in whatever way they like to express themselves. Guided by professional theatre and dance practitioners.

Contact: sioda@earth-bound.co.uk

You can also see a little bit of the dandelion flower and seed puppets in the shot and Shanade has her long brown silky hair drooped over one shoulder. 2) a full body shot of both performers wearing the same headdresses and wearing long floaty skirts, one dark green, one light yellow. Sioda has the stalk of her dandelion puppet wrapped around her body and down one leg and holds the flower up high to the left. Shanade holds a large dandelion seed puppet up and out to the right and is cocking her knee in slightly looking twee and pretty ☺️
Popped down to RSC today to see my old pal and fellow Northern artist @waynesables and his very cool light and sound installation.

Check it out before it leaves Stratford Upon Avon tomorrow evening! 👍🏽

A brilliant day filming Festival OK today as part of Project OK for @katelizabethtaylor who did an amazing job at bringing it all together. Monday was the last of a busy run of events (for now), presenting at the Acting On Climate symposium at Warwick University. I talked a bit about Earth-bound and all that I/we do and we shared some ideas for a smaller, storytelling version of For The Love Of Stuff performed by myself, @charlotte_jarv and @_stephanieemma_ suitable for smaller spaces, schools, rural touring in indoor and outdoor spaces.

I’m grateful to have been included in this research and to be given a commission to develop ideas for the performance and more audience interaction/community engagement. It was a privilege to be in the room and contribute to important conversations with climate theatre education researchers, academics and other brilliant artists!

We can’t wait to perform ‘For The Love Of Stuff’ At Resonate Festival on 2nd of June (next Sunday!) Remember to book your tickets via the link to receive free food vouchers for venders on the day. The organisers from Warwick University have worked really hard to make this accessible for families so make sure you take advantage!

We are on at 3pm but you might spot some of our ‘Plastic Fantastic’ characters roaming the festival and making a ‘racket’ throughout the day 🤪

‘Through physical theatre, puppetry, aerial arts and live music, ‘For The Love of Stuff’ tells a story of a fantastical future world where the stuff we own has become more important than what we feel. The playful and vibrant characters reveal a story of redemption, hope and the power of community. It will leave you moved, thrilled and inspired to take action against the economic systems that are destroying us and our natural world.’

Presented through an inclusive language and although aimed at older children and adults For The Love Of Stuff is created to be experienced and enjoyed by all!

Our music video ‘Dance With Me’ has been selected as part of the Lift-Off Sessions Festival this month. It’s an online festival to showcase Indie films of all kinds and we are part of the ‘New Voices’ programme.

The festival is now open to the public. You can purchase a ticket via their website and vote for your top 4 films!

Celebrating my (almost all) female creative team of strong, supportive and inspirational artists today on International Women’s Day

@_stephanieemma_ @chevonedwards_dance @charlotte_jarv @sassycollyns_circus  @shanademusic

My vision for Earth-bound includes true representation of women in society, particularly challenging the ideals that we should all look and act the same way, acknowledging challenges we face through lack of support for mothers in the industry and understanding of what it means to be a woman surviving in the performing arts sector. My team have been and always will be specifically selected in line with this vision and ambition to change these ideals.

Respect to every women out there juggling life, work, parenting and all that comes with surviving/thriving as a female creative. ✊🏽

Well, we got back into the swing of things this afternoon with my first session of 2024, making shapes with my refugee group, using our bodies to inspire some art work on paper. Modelled by our lovely Mehran here, ironically there’s a ‘gone to the beach’ sign in the background, that I have only just noticed 😅 Truly depicts how a lot of us are feeling 🤣 🥶 As does my picture on the bottom left, slowly trudging into 2024 longing to get to those spring time feels! 🌸 ☀️

ID: image of a man with dark hair, crouching slightly with his arms covering his face as if struggling to take steps forwards. In the forefront three pieces of paper are on a table with drawings of different artistic interpretations of the shape, one colourful and the others black and white. There is a red sign on the wall in the background to the right of the figure with black writing that says ‘gone to the beach’ (Sioda has only just noticed this 😆)

Today we decorated Christmas baubles using scrap materials and broken CDs inspired by our ‘Biggie P’ costume from ‘For The Love Of Stuff’ created for us by @jagomaker

Currently just adults in this group from the refugee hotel now, as a lot of the families with children have moved on but our time together each week is so valuable. I will be sad when these sessions have to come to an end.

2. A ringmasters hat and shoulder pieces on shaped like hands, covered in black bin bags and decorated with pieces of broken CDs, presented on a stand in front of the word ‘Jago’ in gold letters.

It’s been a month already since our ‘For The Love Of Stuff’ show in Barnsley and although we’ve been a little quiet on socials, I have been busy continuing work with the lovely people from the hotel that hosts asylum seekers in Warwickshire. We have been creating all kinds of art works, exploring creative expression, community and celebration as part of @arts_uplift project ‘Bridging The Gap’ which also includes a dementia movement group from Kenilworth led by @sonrisaarts . I have loved working with these groups. They are beautiful people full of love and happiness despite being forced to live in a situation far away from home and far from ideal. They are so inspiring and their smiles light me up every week.
